Shropshire Building Control Partnership with Hawk Developments from Prees were highly commended at the recent LABC Awards where outstanding construction was celebrated, as nearly 700 UK building industry professionals gathered for the Grand Finals of the 2015 LABC Building Excellence Awards. Contractors, architects, designers and local authority building control surveyors were among the guests at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Comedian and impersonator Jon Culshaw, best known for his show Dead Ringers, hosted the event, which is held to reward the best in technical innovation, sustainability and design. The awards showcase buildings and design teams that have had to tussle with difficult technical or construction issues and building site constraints. They highlight innovative and creative solutions and building control professionalism that leads to safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects.

More than 1,000 projects across England and Wales were nominated for the prestigious awards, which concluded with 14 winning and six highly commended developments. The regional awards saw more than 3,500 local authority building control clients and surveyors participate, making these the biggest business-to-business awards series in the UK.

LABC President Peter Keates said: “LABC leads the provision of an outstanding building control service to the construction industry. We are dedicated to growing and developing strong partnerships, which create exciting projects that really deliver high standards through, team work, creativity, and innovation. These awards are an opportunity for us to recognise the high level of skill and professionalism the industry is capable of achieving.”

Paul Everall, Chief Executive of LABC, said: “The LABC Building Excellence Awards reflect the ability of the best in the construction industry to deliver high standards of design and workmanship, which lead to safe and sustainable buildings where people are thrilled to live and work. Our awards are unique because they recognise how co-operation between our winners and local authority building control teams improves building quality and professionalism across the industry.”

The LABC awards are a level playing field where small local architects and builders rub shoulders with large PLCs.

Developers including Balfour Beatty, Keepmoat, Kier Construction and Morgan Sindall at the top end shared the prizes with local and regional firms, which were well represented.

Award trophies and certificates were presented by representatives of sponsors Home & Build, Roger Bullivant, Travis Perkins, TLX Insulation, Polypipe Terrain, LABC Acoustics and LABC Warranty.

During the night approximately £8,000 was raised for LABC charity of the year Teenage Cancer Trust, bringing the overall total for the year to £60,000.
