Homeless now?

Homeless now or within 28 days?

If you're homeless now or think you will be within the next 28 days you need to take action immediately. The Housing Options Team can act in a number of ways to help you remain in your home, or to assist you in finding alternative accommodation. Please call us on 0345 6789 005. The earlier you make contact the better chance you have of being able to remain in your home.

If you're homeless we'll take a homelessness application from you. This will help us decide if we have a duty to rehouse you. If so, we'll also be able to offer you temporary accommodation whilst more secure accommodation is found.

Not everyone is entitled to be rehoused. Before reaching a decision, we must consider these five questions:

We'll look at each of these in detail, make enquiries and ask for evidence to help us make a decision. Once a decision has been made, you'll be provided with a letter outlining the decision and the reasons the decision was arrived at.

Shropshire HomePoint

If you wish to apply for social housing you'll need to register with Shropshire HomePoint, which provides a one-stop solution for people seeking housing, and manages the Shropshire Housing Register, also known as the Housing Waiting List.

Once registered, you're able to place bids on available properties and update any changes to your housing application online. When registering, please make a note of your unique reference number and memorable date as you'll need this to log in to your account.

The Housing Solutions wizard, accessed via the Shropshire HomePoint website, offers a self-service tool to provide you with advice and a personalised action plan. You'll be asked a series of questions about your current housing situation, before being guided through a range of different options available to you. You're then able to print off an action plan tailored specifically to your needs. 

If we have a statutory duty to find you further accommodation, you'll be placed into priority banding on Shropshire HomePoint. You'll then be expected to bid on suitable properties when they're advertised. If we don't have a legal duty to provide you with further accommodation, we'll offer you advice and assistance to help you find accommodation.

Rough sleeping

If you're rough sleeping or know someone who is, you can make a referral to Streetlink, either via their website or by calling 0300 500 0914. Your information will then be sent to the Rough Sleeper Outreach Team, which will attempt to make contact with the rough sleeper and support them into accommodation. The Shrewsbury Ark runs the Rough Sleeper Outreach Service across the county.
