Homelessness prevention

Becoming homeless can be one of life's most stressful times. You can take action that may enable you to remain in your home or find suitable accommodation elsewhere, but if you find yourself in a situation of imminent homelessness, it's in your interest to act now!

Prevention

We can help to prevent you from becoming homeless by:

  • Helping you to remain in your home
  • Helping you find alternative accommodation
  • Signposting you to benefit or financial advice to ensure you've maximised your income
  • Mediating with family or landlords so you can remain in your home
  • Signposting you to legal advice
  • Referring you for tenancy support to help you overcome any problems that may result in you losing your home
  • Signposting you to the Citizens Advice Service to see if they're able to assist where we can't

If you're being evicted, we may be able to take action to prevent or postpone the eviction. Contact us on 0345 678 9005.

Know your rights

It's important that you know your rights. Shelter is a registered housing and homeless charity which gives advice on your rights as a private tenant. You can call Shelter on 0808 800 4444.

Under 18?

If you're under 18 and your family or friends have asked you to leave, please contact Shropshire Council on 0345 678 9000.
