What we do and how to contact us

Homelessness is the most acute form of housing need. A person can be legally classed as homeless if they're living on the street, sleeping on a friend's sofa, staying in a hostel or suffering from overcrowding. To prevent homelessness, the Housing Options team work with you using a range of options to try to keep you in your current home, or assist you to find alternative accommodation.

Your enquiry will be taken by a trained customer services operator, who will complete an initial contact referral form on behalf of the Housing Options team. If your enquiry requires housing advice, you'll receive a phone call within five working days of contacting us (contact details are at the bottom of this page). For homelessness enquiries you'll be contacted the same day. The initial enquiry will be completed over the phone, but you may be asked to visit your local Shropshire Council customer service point for a face-to-face interview.

Please be aware that when you're contacted the number may come up as 'withheld'.

You'll be asked for information on how you became homeless, and may have to provide further information for us to assess your homelessness application. For more information on how a decision is reached on your homelessness application, take a look at our 'Homeless Now?' page.
