Shropshire Council is proposing to permit the installation of two dedicated electric car charging bays and an electric car charging point in Easthope Car Park No 1 in Church Stretton.
The Council was approached by a private local organisation known as Stretton Climate Care who have set aside funding in conjunction with a government grant to fund the scheme. Shropshire Council have been working in partnership with Stretton Climate Care, the Town Council and the Co-op on a proposal to permit the provision of such, and a change is required to the Traffic
Regulation Order in order to permit the management and operation of the unit and bays.
The electric car charging bays will only be available for use by electric motor vehicles and only whilst being recharged. Customers using this charging point will be required to pay the appropriate daily charge for the duration of the stay in accordance with the current terms and conditions within the car park and any additional fee relating to the charging of the vehicle.
The scheme is administered by Plugged in Midlands and is one of eight projects supported by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles. Cards are provided to registered users who are able to access charging points across not only the Midlands but also the rest of the country.
The scheme would support the expectation that the number of electric vehicles will rise substantially in the next few years and offers a central location in Shropshire for a charging point. It also would support meeting carbon reduction targets by encouraging the use of vehicles with low emissions.
